International Mother Language Day 2011: planned programme

International Mother Language Day 2011 is not right around the corner, but it will come sooner than we expect. 21st of February 2011 is that special day.

We are now preparing educational material which can then be translated in as many langauges as possible. Not too much, because it must remain feasible, but enough to go forwards step by step. Of course you may jump in any time and work on whatever is already there.

For International Mother Language Day 2010 we will care about

1) The Continents
2) The Numbers 1-20
3) The Forest - description
4) The Forest - a glossary

Of course there is much more needed, but we have to start somewhere. In the occasion of the European Day of Languages we started to create ABC-Books: many languages are still missing. Right now we are creating a script that will help to directly create the pages needed from the translated tables you turn back to us.

I just prepared the first step about the continents. Additional exercises of course are welcome :-)  (Exercises are linked at the end of the page - right now the "terminology used section" disturbs a bit - it will be taken out soon).

Text should be kept as short as possible, not more than necessary and we should always try to connect lessons. With the "Animals of the World" we will also connect to the continents by telling which animal lives on which continent. We have to remember that whatever we write needs to be translated. If we write long texts we won't get many subjects done. Kids remember the images associated with words and not "long nice texts".

So here we go, International Mother Langauge Day 2011 we are coming :-)))
