The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are to:
- alert the public to the importance of language learning and diversify the range of languages learned in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding;
- promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe;
- encourage lifelong language learning in and out of school.
As you might see from these objectives: all languages are included, not just the European languages (see first point), in this day and language learning starts by the ABC, or an equivalent for languages with oter writing systems. This is the reason why we decided that now is the time to start with our ABC-Book project. Since we already have data for quite some languages in our database we have to create exports language by language to see what is missing and pass that to people who want to help.
Goal is to collect the necessary terms for as many languages as possible by 26 of September 2010.
Please contact us at voxhumanitatis [at] gmail [dot] com to add an ABC-Book in your language or one you know well.
Languages we are already working on:
- Alemannic
- Catalan
- Dutch
- English
- Finnish
- Franconian
- German
- Irish
- Neapolitan
- Spanish
(List will be updated over time)
